I spotted these two Sandhill Cranes on Westham Island. I have never seen them before. They were quite big and were striking to see.
According to allaboutbirds.org, the earliest Sandhill Crane fossil that was found dates back to 2.5 million years ago, and it was unearthed in the Macasphalt Shell Pit in Florida. This means that Sandhill Cranes have been around that long in the same form. They may not be from the Jurassic period but they are from the Paleolithic period, which is the Stone Age when early humans lived in caves.
